Abdyssagin Rakhat-Bi Tolegenuly

(born 02.02.1999, Kazakhstan) – is a composer and pianist. At the age of 20 he wrote 2 Operas (‘The Path lit by the Sun’ and ‘The Mysterious Lady’). He is the author of more than 150 music compositions, including large-scale symphonic canvases ‘Kazakh rhapsody’, ‘Forward into the Sunlight’, ‘The Will to Live’, ‘God’s dwelling’, ‘Aftersounds of Romanticism’, ‘Beyond the Darkness’, ‘Time Run’, ‘Des pensées de loin’, ‘Tears of Silence’, ‘A drop of Eternity’, ‘The Sacred Universe of Particles’, ‘Phantom reflections’, ‘Ghosts of Immortality’, ‘Qubylys’, ‘I raggi di Dante’ etc.

Master of Art Sciences, winner of ‘Daryn’ State Youth Award, holder of the Honorary Badge ‘For Merits in the Development of Culture and Art’ of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, member of Association of Tchaikovsky Competition Stars. Winner of the National project ‘100 new faces of Kazakhstan’.

At 13 years old he became a student of Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory, at 17 – graduate student of Kazakh National University of Arts, he completed an internship at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory. At the age of 18 brilliantly defended his master’s dissertation. Then he entered the postgraduate studies of three prestigious universities in Italy: Master di II Livello at Conservatorio ‘Giuseppe Verdi’ in Milan (in composition with Alessandro Solbiati), Master in II Livello at Conservatorio ‘Cesare Pollini’ in Padua (in piano with Konstantin Bogino), as well as Corso di Perfezionamento of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome (in composition with Ivan Fedele). In 2019 he completed them all brilliantly at the age of 20.

He is called the Kazakh Mozart. At 10 years old he wrote music that mature composers could be proud of! His works are performed in the famous concert halls of Italy, Austria, France, the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Czech Republic, Slovenia, South Korea, Turkey, Ukraine, Russia, Romania, Egypt, Jordan, China and the USA. Often he himself plays the piano solo part. He gives recitals and portrait concerts. British critics have called Rakhat-Bi ‘a real Kazakh miracle, a virtuoso pianist with extraordinary power and ambition in character’.

He is the youngest lecturer of ICTM 2015, participant of VIII-XII International Academy Impuls (Graz 2013-2021), ISA scholarship (Mürzzuschlag 2015), KlangZeitMünster 2016, Sermoneta (Italy 2017). At the age of 12 he published his first collection ‘Edges of a Harmony’. At the age of 14 he published a unique work ‘Mathematics and Contemporary Music’. He is the author of a number of scientific articles and books. He speaks Kazakh, Russian, English, Italian and Spanish. From the age of 13 he lectures on culture and arts. German critics say: ‘music of Rakhat-Bi has a special structure and mathematical precision. It is full of poetry and passion’. His scores are published by European and Russian editions.

He is the Artistic Director/Chairman of Jury of the I-III International Composer Competition ‘New Music Generation’ (Nur-Sultan 2019-2021).
