Department of Acquisition, Scientific Processing and Cataloging

In the acquisition department of the IBS KazNUA, the book begins its journey to the reader. The department ensures scientifically based, complete and prompt acquisition of library collections with documents.

The acquisition of the library collection is carried out in accordance with the profile of the university, curricula and information needs of scientific research institutes, faculties and departments of the university.

The department carries out the processes of acquisition, cataloging of publications and other documents on the basis of the automated library information system IRBIS, which represents a set of interconnected automated workstations (AWS) - “Collector”, “Cataloguer”, and also conducts the work of a general and topographic catalogue.

Carries out systematic and prompt acquisition of the library's collection with documents on traditional and electronic media in the state, Russian and foreign languages.

  • places pre-orders for publications according to the price lists of bookselling organizations and publishing houses based on applications from departments, departments of the University and library departments;
  • takes into account all incoming and outgoing documents;
  • accepts donations of educational and scientific publications from the university teaching staff;
  • assigns UDC classifications and the SRNTI index to scientific publications (educational and methodological manuals, monographs, scientific articles, dissertations) of teaching staff, undergraduates, doctoral students, and students of the University.

Reader Services Information Services Department

One of the structural divisions of the information and library service. The department provides information support for the educational process and research activities of the university.
Tasks:

  • high-quality and efficient library and information-bibliographic services for all categories of users with sources of information on traditional and electronic media in accordance with their information requests;
  • assistance in the formation of the fund of the department according to the university profile and studying the information needs of readers;
  • nurturing the information culture of users;
  • ensuring the safety of the library's book collection.

The department pays special attention to creating comfortable conditions for a full and high-quality book service for its users through subscriptions and reading rooms.

The department also conducts educational and cultural events for the university community, organizes book exhibitions to help the educational process, open screenings of literature for scientific conferences, and Information Days.

Department of reference, bibliographic and information work

The department of reference, bibliographic and information work provides reference, bibliographic and information services to users in accordance with the areas of scientific, educational, cultural and educational work of the university.
Main goals:

  • servicing information requests from readers;
  • formation and maintenance of the Database “Articles”;
  • consulting on the use of reference and bibliographic apparatus of the information retrieval system;
  • conducts group classes and consultations to improve the information and bibliographic literacy of users;
  • compilation of scientific and auxiliary literature indexes to assist the scientific and educational work of students and specialists;
  • compilation of bio and bibliographic indexes.

The Department of Information and Bibliographic Work provides a range of services using the department’s unique fund, unpublished bibliographic lists, card indexes, etc.
Along with traditional sources of information, the following are used to fulfill reader requests:

  • electronic catalog "Irbis";
  • local databases (DBs) for specific thematic areas;
  • domestic and foreign bibliographic and factual databases;
  • Internet network resources.

The reader can obtain from a bibliographer:

  • information about bibliographic and information sources necessary for selecting literature on the topic;
  • bibliographic consultation on methods of searching for literature in indexes, catalogues, card indexes and on the rules for compiling and formatting reference lists for scientific works;
  • assistance in clarifying the bibliographic data of a book or article, etc.

Library Process Automation Department

Carries out work on the implementation, support and development of modern technologies for automating library processes. Forms collections of electronic resources for information support of educational and research activities of the University.
Main areas of work:

  • Creation of an electronic library (EL)
  • providing users with access to the Internet via workstations and wireless networks;
  • provision of advisory and reference services (on-, offline) on the use of the “Electronic Library”, subscription electronic resources, self-generated databases;
  • maintaining the library website.
